Major milestone reached in the delivery of a state-of-the-art medical centre for Hirwaun.
Plans for a new, state-of-the-art, primary care centre in Hirwaun,
The development is being delivered through a partnership between the Welsh Assembly Government, Cwm Taf Local Health Board, General Practitioners and Primary Asset, part of the MedicX Group; a leading developer of innovative medical premises to the primary care sector throughout the UK. The new primary care centre in Hirwaun is part of the Local Health Board’s wider strategy to renew primary care premises across Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Paul Western, project lead for Cwm Taf Local Health Board concludes:
“This is a major step to achieving a long held goal for the Local Health Board and the community in Hirwaun”
Tony Coke, Regional Director of Primary Asset, comments:
“We are truly delighted to have reached this exciting stage in the project. We recognise the huge benefits this development will bring to the local area and we are now focussed on maintaining the momentum to start construction in spring 2010.”
The approved plans comprise a new 13,993 sq ft building, incorporating a range of uses including a pharmacy; general medical services; specialist medical services; dental services; multi-purpose community facilities and office accommodation. The development has been sensitively designed to ensure minimal impact on the surrounding area using natural materials including lightweight timber and stonework. The building design uses a tier form with the highest part in the centre of the development and a contemporary, sleek roof which subtly reduces the overall mass.
A number of transport and access improvements will also be delivered to enhance the visitor experience. These include a new public bus stop located immediately outside the entrance; a dedicated pedestrian pathway with street lighting; a zebra crossing offering safe access towards the entrance of the building and outside lighting for improved safety and security.
