Major milestone reached in the delivery of a mixed use scheme and state-of-the-art medical centre for Apsley
Plans for a new state-of-the-art, primary care centre in London Road, Apsley, have taken a significant step forward after being granted planning permission by Dacorum Borough Council. This marks a major milestone for the much needed £3.5 million development, which will provide Dr Dyson & partners of Lincoln House Surgery with new purpose built premises to replace the existing outdated surgery in Hemel Hempstead town centre.
The development meets Dacorum Borough Council’s desire to promote regeneration within the heart of Apsley and is being delivered through a partnership between the General Practitioners, supported by West Hertfordshire PCT and Primary Asset, part of the MedicX Group; a leading specialist developer of innovative medical premises to the primary care sector throughout the UK.
Dr Dyson, Senior Partner concludes: “This is a major step to achieving a long held goal for the practice, patients and the community in Apsley with a move back to our roots in London Road.
Jon Yendell, Regional Director of Primary Asset, comments: “We are delighted to have secured consent for this scheme and recognise the huge benefits this development will bring to the local area, both in terms of much improved health provision, but also finally kick-starting regeneration this historically problematic site. We are now focussed on maintaining the momentum to start construction in spring 2010.”
The approved plans comprise a new GP surgery at first and second floor level above an integrated Community Pharmacy and a further retail unit at ground floor, fronting London Road. The development also includes four residential apartments and will provide a new link road between London Road and Weymouth Street to serve the new surgery car park and facilitate the Dacorum local plan objectives by enabling Hertfordshire Highway Authority to deliver a number of transport and access improvements to Storey Street at its junction with London Road and Durrants Hill.
